As 2020 finally comes to a close many of us will be gladly cheering its exit. If your like many people and will be having a few alcoholic beverages to toast the end of 2020 there are a few things you might want to know about how to protect your teeth during the countdown.
If your drinking mixed cocktails that contain syrup, sodas and fruit juices then you are usually getting a lot of extra sugar. This extra sugar can definitely put your teeth and gums at risk.
Dry mouth can be a great indicator for a multiple reasons. First with consuming alcohol you can often become dehydrated. Dry mouth is one of the first signs that this is occurring.
A dry Mouth can be harmful for your oral health as your saliva is crucial is washing away food particles and debris between brushing but helps fight that harmful bacteria that feeds off the sugar in your mouth.
A dry Mouth can also be a sign that your breath might not be its freshest when you go for that New Year’s kiss. No one wants to start off the New Year with bad breath being the first thing they notice about themselves.
Drink plenty of water throughout your evening and most of these issues won’t spoil your ability to give 2020 a proper send off! Also, remember to brush at the end of the night, typically, 20-30 minutes after your last drink of alcohol. Acidity within alcohol can often cause a temporary weakening of your enamel and brushing can be quite abrasive if you don’t wait.
Lastly, we would love to see you back in the office after the New Year. Hopefully 2021 will be the start of getting back on track for us all!
