Full mouth restoration is a series of cosmetic dental procedures custom-planned to restore the health and appearance of the mouth and all its component parts. These include the teeth, gums, and other oral tissues.
People with multiple oral and dental issues would need a full mouth restoration. It could be that the person had an accident that caused extensive damage to the mouth and teeth. Or the person has genetic conditions like amelogenesis where the tooth enamel develops fissures, pits, and grooves.
At Edgewater Dental, our periodontist and implant surgeon Dr. Ali Sajadi, DDS, MSD, can address multiple oral and dental problems through full mouth restoration. The procedures that are often selected to be part of a full mouth restoration include:
Fillings can restore a tooth that has cavities caused by tooth decay or other causes. These fillings prevent further damage, reinstate chewing function, and relieve pain.
When fillings aren’t enough to repair the damage, our dentist can place a crown that would cover the whale top section of the tooth. This treatment is best for broken, chipped, or cracked teeth.
If the tooth’s inner pulp has been infected, causing severe toothache, a root canal is needed to treat the infection and save the tooth from extraction. With anesthesia, holes are opened on the tooth through which the infected pulp is removed. The emptied chamber is then cleaned and packed with a medicated filling material. The tooth is then sealed with a crown to further reinforce its structure.
For severe conditions, oral surgery may be the only viable option. These conditions include impacted teeth that need to be removed, severely damaged teeth that need to be extracted, and issues with the jaw that cannot be addressed with other treatments.
Dental implants, titanium roots placed into the jawbone supporting an artificial tooth or another prosthesis, replace missing teeth. Not only do they provide a permanent solution that needs as much care as natural teeth, but they also look and work like natural teeth.
There are other procedures that may be selected that are not mentioned here.
